Can you legally marry us?

Yes! I’m a licensed celebrant, meaning that I not only conduct but officiate the ceremony, under license from the National Registrar of Scotland.

Do you do handfasting?

Yes, I do handfasting, quaich ceremonies, oathing stones and many other symbolic rituals. I can also work with you to design a personal symbolic gesture that will be entirely unique to your wedding. Just tell me what you would like and I’ll make it so.

How much will it cost?

The fee for a legal marriages and non-legal commitment or blessing ceremonies £500, which includes everything except travel (see below).  The fee for a naming ceremony is £250.

Do we need a location license?

Can we do our own vows?

Yes, of course you can. It’s your day and I’ll support you to have it your way. You can write your own vows and read them to one another, exchange letters, or sit back and let me do the work - it’s entirely up to you.

How far do you travel?

I’m based in East Lothian, but am happy to travel anywhere in Scotland for ceremonies. I’m also happy to travel to the rest of the UK and even beyond, although unfortunately, humanist celebrants aren’t legally able to marry people outside of Scotland - for now!

My travel to and from the ceremony costs 50p per mile, and if I need to stay overnight there will be an additional cost. Travel to and from meetings is free.

What happens if You’re Ill on the Day?

The beauty of belonging to a guild is that in the unlikely event of an emergency on the day that would prevent me getting to you, one of my colleagues at Independent Humanist Ceremonies would step in and deliver the ceremony I’ve composed in my place. So no matter what, you can be confident that your big day will go ahead as planned.

Can we include Religious Readings or Elements in our ceremony?

Yes, you can - as long as I’m not the one doing the reading or conducting the element.
